Quite cosmically, the universe lined up the Chicago chapter of "Dance Dance Party Party."
Our birth story goes as follows, no joke.
I go to NYC one weekend and end up back stage at Conan O'Brian (another story for another day) and meet one Glennis McMurray in the Green Room. She's performing that night on the show in a sketch, and we chitty chat and get along real nice-like. And since I take my camera everywhere, I take photos of her in her garb and promise to email her the photos as proof of this momentous occasion of her being on Conan.
Fast forward 5 months. I finally sit my roommate (Jenn Martin) down to discuss this little idea that had been brewing in my head for far too long. I want to start an exercise class that's free-style dancing just for women. I hate having to choke my desire to freak out on the treadmill. I'm done getting dirty looks dancing on the sidewalk while commuting. We discuss, we brainstorm, we end with a handshake and a high five and adjourn to our respective bedrooms to sleep.
THE VERY NEXT DAY (I jest not), I go to a radio boozy schmoozy party and they're giving away Venus Zines at the event. Curious, I give her a read before going to bed that night and what doth I spy? An article that changes everything. It seems that there's this little class in NYC is doing pretty much the exact same thing I want to do. My initial thought is, "Dammit - someone beat me to it." My second thought is, "Sweet! This kind of thing obviously works! I should still do it in Chicago." My third thought is to re-read the article again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating and that - THAT my friend is how I came across Glennis' name in the article and start to convulse at the whole coincidence.
So immediately at 2:36 am, I send her an insanely passionate email about the whole cosmic event, and she emails back totally amazed and excited and blah blah blah - so we started the class here! How's that for a loving universe? AMAZING, really. Anyway - here's the scoop on the class. Now that you have the back story, coming to class will be all the more meaningful. In fact, you're probably crying right now. Oh wait - that's just me. Don't judge. Anyway.
